- The Russian Embassy in Yemen is looking for ways to export Russians from Socotra Island
A number of Russian citizens are currently unable to leave Socotra Island due to flight restrictions imposed in Yemen. This was announced on January 4 by the Russian Embassy in Yemen.
"They are currently (tourists. — Ed.) cannot leave Socotra due to the restrictions imposed on flights to the archipelago. The Embassy of the Russian Federation is making every effort to collect data on Russian citizens and find ways out of the current situation," the statement said.
The diplomatic mission operates around the clock, interacting with the Russian emergency services and the Yemeni authorities. The diplomats emphasize that the tourists arrived on the island contrary to the repeated recommendations of the Russian Foreign Ministry to refrain from traveling to the region.
The Saudi-led coalition launched a military operation on December 31. This happened after the UAE ships docked at the port of the republic without approval. Later, the Yemeni authorities announced the introduction of a state of emergency on the territory of their state for a period of 90 days, and also demanded that the UAE withdraw all forces from their country within 24 hours.
On the afternoon of December 30, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied Saudi Arabia's accusations of allegedly putting pressure on the separatists of the Southern Transitional Council (UPC) and encouraging military operations near the kingdom's borders. The statement stressed that in the current situation, "the facts are significantly distorted."
