About 150 people were injured by lightning during the annual Di Trupa festival in the Republic of South Africa (South Africa). This was announced on January 4 by the government of the Northwestern Province.

"The Department of Health of the Northwestern Province confirms the provision of assistance to patients after a lightning strike," the government wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

The incident occurred on January 3 in the village of Matibestad, 50 km from Pretoria. Two people died upon arrival at the clinic, and 13 critically ill patients were transferred to Jubilee Hospital. Most of the victims suffered minor burns.

By the morning of January 4, the total number of hospitalized people had reached 49. Doctors, nurses and a reinforced ambulance crew were working at the site. Provincial Health Minister Sello Lehari thanked his colleagues from Gauteng for their help in dealing with the consequences of the emergency.

On August 12 last year, a shepherd and several animals were killed by lightning in the Shailyk-Syrt tract in Karachay-Cherkessia. It is specified that the prosecutor's office of the republic took control of the establishment of the circumstances of the incident.
