On January 4, Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner announced the introduction of an emergency regime in the city due to a blackout caused by the attack of the leftist extremist group Vulkan on the Lichterfelde power plant.

"Berlin is declaring an emergency. Today we will once again strengthen coordination," Wegner wrote on his Facebook page (ex. Twitter).

He also noted that the Bundeswehr is currently considering the possibility of providing support.

On January 3, 50,000 households in southwestern Berlin were left without electricity. It was noted that the management company Stromnetz Berlin expects "full restoration of power supply to all customers" only by January 15. Later that day, the German leftist extremist group Vulkan claimed responsibility for setting fire to cables at the Lichterfelde power plant in Berlin.

According to Stromnetz Berlin, about 7,000 out of 10,000 households, as well as 150 commercial establishments, were connected to electricity again.
