The Buran plan was introduced in Tatarstan due to snowfall

The Buran plan was put into effect in Tatarstan due to heavy snowfalls and snow drifts on highways. This was announced on January 4 by the press service of the Government of the Republic.

"In Tatarstan, from 14:00 hours on January 4, 2026 and until the elimination of the consequences of adverse meteorological events, the Buran plan was introduced," the message says.

The press service clarified that the coordination and control of the use of forces and means that will be involved in the implementation of measures under the Buran plan is entrusted to the Ministry of Transport and Road Management of Tatarstan.

On Saturday, January 3, a snowstorm began in the republic with a decrease in visibility to 1 km, strong wind gusts up to 20 m/s. On Sunday, January 4, heavy sleet was recorded, a blizzard with reduced visibility to 500 m and wind gusts reaching up to 23 m/ s, icy roads, snow drifts, snow porridge.

According to the regional main directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, a strong south-westerly wind with gusts up to 20 m/s is expected in Tatarstan at night and in the morning on January 5. The agency recommended that local residents stay at home if possible.

Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, announced on January 4 that frosts of up to -25 degrees would arrive in Moscow by the end of next week. According to his forecast, on Monday, January 5, the temperature in Moscow will not be lower than -2...-5 degrees, and by Christmas it will drop to -4...-7 degrees.
