- In India, a pensioner beat her daughter-in-law to death because of payments after her son's death
A 60-year-old woman suspected of organizing the murder of her own daughter-in-law has been arrested in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The reason for the crime, according to investigators, was a conflict over monetary compensation after the death of his son and the right to his workplace. This was announced on January 4 by NDTV.
"The accused tried to mislead the investigation by filing a missing persons report on the very woman she killed," said Assistant Police Commissioner Kalyanji Goethe.
According to police, the body of 35-year-old Rupali Gangurde with head injuries was found on January 1 near the bridge. Initially, her death was considered an accident, but later her mother-in-law Latabai Gangurde contacted the department and reported her daughter-in-law missing. Her testimony aroused the suspicions of the investigators. It turned out that the deceased's husband died in September 2025. After that, Rupali received compensation from the state in the amount of 9 lakh rupees (about 900 thousand rubles), which her mother-in-law demanded to be transferred to her.
In addition, the women clashed over the right to fill the deceased's vacancy on the railway: the pensioner insisted on employing her 15-year-old grandson. According to investigators, Latabai Gangurde, along with his 67-year-old friend Jagdish Mahadev Mkhatre, beat his daughter-in-law to death with an iron rod, after which they took out and dumped the body. Both suspects have been arrested.
The Times of India newspaper reported on October 3 that in India, parents attempted to bury their three-day-old baby alive, but local residents managed to save him. According to the newspaper, the child's father worked as a teacher in a public school and, according to the laws of the country, he was forbidden to have more than two children, and the birth of a fourth child could lead to his dismissal. In order to hide this fact, he and his wife took the baby to the forest and left him under the rocks.
