In 2025, sales of new cars in Russia decreased by 19%
By the end of last year, almost 1.496 million new cars were sold in Russia (up to three years). This was reported to Izvestia on January 5 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. This is 19% lower than the results of 2024, the ministry said.
Sales of new passenger cars decreased by 15% to 1,317 million units. Sales of light commercial models decreased by 24% (107 thousand units), trucks — by 53% (to 57.6 thousand units), buses — by 31% (to 14.3 thousand units), according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.
At the same time, a total of 155.5 thousand new cars were sold in December last year. This is 9% more than in November 2025, and 6% more than in December last year, the ministry said.
"The market for new cars of domestic production exceeded 832.1 thousand units, which is 0.2% more than in 2024. In December, sales of cars manufactured in the Russian Federation amounted to 92.7 thousand units, which is 22% more than in December 2024. Thus, by the end of December, the share of domestic equipment reached almost 60%," the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation noted.
Earlier, on January 2, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry warned that additional traffic police crews would work on the roads and undergo mass inspections throughout the New Year holidays.
