President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree imposing sanctions against 70 companies registered in Russia, China and the Virgin Islands. The document was published on January 3 on the website of the Office of the President.

"To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated January 3, 2026 on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures," the decree says.

According to the document, 60 companies with Russian registration, 9 with Chinese registration and one with registration in the Virgin Islands were subject to restrictions. Personal sanctions have also been imposed on five individuals from Russia. The decree came into force from the moment of its publication.

The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, said that the participants of the European Union (EU) summit had decided to extend anti-Russian sanctions for six months. According to him, at the EU summit, it was decided to instruct the European Commission (EC) to continue working on a "reparation loan" to Kiev at the expense of frozen assets of the Russian Federation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 27 that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. He noted that the Russian government, on his instructions, is developing a package of retaliatory measures for asset confiscation.
