To the Russian striker and captain of the National Hockey League (NHL) club Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin was hit in the face with a stick during a regular season match against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The blow was so strong that the athlete got blood on his lip, and one of his front teeth broke off. The incident occurred in the third period. It was attended by the opposing player Louis Crevier, who did not receive any punishment from the referee.

The match of the teams took place on the night of Sunday, January 4. As a result, the hockey players from Chicago won 3-2 after a shootout. Ovechkin spent 18 minutes on the ice, made two shots on goal, used four power moves, but did not show any results. His goalless streak reached four matches.
