Due to the military operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, launched by US President Donald Trump, thousands of tourists vacationing on the Caribbean coast were blocked as their flights were suspended. This was reported on January 3 by the British newspaper Daily Mail (DM) with reference to the victims.

"Thousands of tourists are trapped in the Caribbean after flights were suspended following the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the United States. <...> Tourists fear they will be stuck on the paradise islands at least until Thursday (January 8. — Ed.)," the article says.

One of the vacationers said that the message about the postponement of his flight, which was supposed to depart from St. Thomas Island to New York, woke him up at night. The man found out about what happened in Venezuela only when he was scrolling through the news on his phone, while simultaneously waiting for a response from the operator of his airline's hotline. The tourist clarified that the wait dragged on for 40 minutes.

Some interlocutors of the publication expressed indignation at what was happening. They clarified that due to the restrictions on flights over the Caribbean Sea, they had to make unforeseen expenses for a hotel and now they are not sure that the airlines will reimburse the losses.

On the same day, Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, which also affected La Carlota Airport in the capital of the republic of Caracas. Later it became known that Conviasa Airline cancelled the flight from Moscow to Caracas, which was scheduled for January 5. It was noted that flight V0771 was scheduled to depart from Vnukovo to the Venezuelan capital on January 5 at 11:00 Moscow time, but its status was changed to "canceled."

On January 3, Izvestia interviewed tourists who arrived from Caracas to Moscow, who stated that the situation was calm when they were sent from the country to their homeland.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
