The leader of the Dutch election winner condemned the US operation in Venezuela.
The massive US strike on Caracas and the imprisonment of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores, followed by the seizure of power in Venezuela, violate international law. This was announced on January 3 by the leader of the social liberal Democrats 66 (D66) party, Rob Jetten, who won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands.
"This is (the capture of Maduro and his wife. — Ed.) the wrong way. The bombing of Caracas, the imprisonment of Maduro and his wife, and the seizure of power directly contradict international law. This sets a precedent that carries significant risks for the rest of the world," Yatten wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The politician added that interference in the country's sovereignty without a United Nations (UN) mandate is unacceptable. Jetten said that the Netherlands and the European Union (EU) should contribute to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and de-escalation.
On January 3, American leader Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.
Later, the American leader said that there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. Thus, the president of Venezuela, according to his information, personally supervised the activities of the Cartel de los Soles (Cartel of the Suns. — Ed.), who was transporting drugs to the United States.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said on the same day that the republic would not become anyone's colony. She stressed that Venezuela demands the immediate release of Maduro and his wife. The only legitimate Venezuelan president is Maduro, Rodriguez noted.
