UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres believes that the US operation against Venezuela is a "dangerous precedent" because it may have alarming consequences for the entire region. The Secretary General's words were announced on January 3 by his representative Stephane Dujarric.

"The Secretary General is deeply alarmed by the recent escalation in Venezuela <...>. Regardless of the situation in Venezuela, these events set a dangerous precedent," Dujarric said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of full compliance by all with the norms of international law, including the UN Charter, expressing concern that these norms are not being respected.

On this day, American President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. According to him, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country. He added that the US military took Maduro and his wife out after they were captured by helicopter, after which they landed on a ship.

He also did not rule out a second wave of attacks on the republic.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern and condemnation after the start of the US military operation in Venezuela. Russia also reaffirmed its solidarity with the Venezuelan people.
