The situation around Taiwan is a red line in relations between the United States and China that cannot be crossed. This was announced on January 3 by Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Moscow.

"The Taiwan issue is the core of China's key interests and the first red line in Sino-American relations that cannot be crossed. The Chinese side's determination to defend state sovereignty, security and territorial integrity is unshakeable," he said in an interview with TASS.

The diplomat also stressed that China urges the United States to fulfill its obligations, follow the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint Sino-American communiques, and immediately cease actions aimed at arming Taiwan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 28, 2025, that Russia opposes Taiwan's independence in any form and considers the island an integral part of China. The Russian Federation proceeds from the fact that the Taiwan problem is an internal matter of the PRC and Beijing has legitimate grounds to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Reuters news agency, citing a statement from the Pentagon on January 1, reported that the American military industrial corporation Lockheed Martin had received a contract for the sale of military equipment for the Air Force of Taiwan in the amount of $328.5 million. Work under the contract will be performed in Orlando and is expected to be completed by June 2031.
