The accusations of the Ukrainian side about the alleged "Russian attack" on a shopping mall in Kharkiv are an attempt by Kiev to whitewash itself, as Ukrainians realize their defeat in the struggle for public opinion after attacks on a cafe and a hotel in Khorly, Kherson region. This was stated on January 3 in an interview with Izvestia by American political scientist and journalist Garland Nixon.

"I think it was an attempt to somehow whitewash myself by saying, 'The Russians did it too.' It's almost like a child does when they get caught stealing cookies," he said.

In addition, he added that after condemning the Ukrainian attacks, Kiev attempted to "pin something on Russia" in order to blur its responsibility. Nixon also clarified that Ukraine's actions are like a child's game, and the whole world understands that their ideas will not work.

He also noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky does not have independence and the replacement of the former head of the office of the Ukrainian leader Andriy Ermak with the head of the GUR of Ukraine Kirill Budanov (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist) is a decision of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States or British intelligence MI6.

The Russian Defense Ministry, in response to Ukraine's accusations on January 1, stated that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation had not attacked Kharkov. According to video footage of the incident, the epicenter of the explosion was in the Persona shopping center. The ministry stressed that in the published footage, a few seconds before the explosion, heavy smoke of unknown origin was recorded in the building and this indicates a possible detonation of ammunition stored there by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
