Iran has sent an appeal to the United Nations (UN) and the UN Security Council (UNSC), in which it condemned US President Donald Trump's statements about the protests and warned of its readiness to defend itself in the event of an American strike. This was reported on January 2 by the IRNA news agency.

"Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran's ambassador and representative to the United Nations, condemned Trump's interventionist and inflammatory statements and emphasized Iran's inalienable right to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security and the protection of its people from any foreign interference," the agency said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel.

Iravani noted that Iran intends to exercise its right to self-defense in a "decisive and proportionate manner" in the event of external aggression. The letter also states that the United States will bear full responsibility for any consequences of possible illegal threats and the subsequent escalation of tension.

The chairman of the Islamic Advisory Council of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on January 2 that if the United States shows aggression, Iran will strike back at American bases in the Middle East. According to Ghalibaf, attempts by foreign special agents to turn legitimate protests into armed clashes have failed.

On January 2, Trump announced that if Iran kills peaceful protesters, the United States is ready to help the demonstrators. He added that the United States is focused and ready for action.
