A number of solar and lunar eclipses are expected in 2026, two of which will be available for observation in some territories of Russia in August. This was announced on January 3 by Nikolai Zheleznov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy (IPA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Eclipses usually occur in pairs (lunar and solar or vice versa) with an interval of two weeks. In the coming 2026, an annular solar eclipse will occur on February 17, but it can be observed in the southern hemisphere. And two weeks later, on March 3, there will be a total lunar eclipse. It will be visible in the western hemisphere," he told RIA Novosti.
