- The media reported on plans in the Czech Republic to oust the speaker of parliament because of the words about Ukraine
Opposition parties in the Czech Republic have begun preparing a voting procedure in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament with the aim of removing Tomio Okamura, leader of the Freedom and Direct Democracy movement (SPD), from the post of speaker after his harsh statements about the impossibility of financing Ukraine. This was reported on January 2 by the Czech CHTK agency, citing sources.
"The opposition wants to initiate a vote in the Chamber of Deputies on the resignation of its chairman Tomio Okamura (SPD) in connection with his New Year's speech, in which he sharply criticized Ukraine and the European Union," the article says.
It is specified that the initiators of the procedure were the leaders of the former ruling five-party coalition, which included the Civic Democratic Party, the Czech Pirate Party, the STAN and TOP 09 movements, as well as the Christian Democratic Movement.
On January 1, Okamura said that money from the budget intended for the needs of socially vulnerable groups of the population should not be spent on the purchase of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to him, helping and distributing money to foreigners beyond the norm is absurd. In addition, Okamura expressed his conviction that Ukraine should not be in the European Union.
