Photographer Valery Plotnikov died in St. Petersburg.
Photographer Valery Plotnikov, known for his portraits of Vladimir Vysotsky and other cultural figures, died on January 2 in St. Petersburg at the age of 83.
"We are sad to inform you that our Master Photographer Valery Plotnikov left us today in St. Petersburg. We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the people," the message of the Telegram channel "Valery Plotnikov's Photo Gallery" says.
Plotnikov was born in Barnaul, but lived and worked in the city on the Neva River for most of his life. He was also known under the pseudonym Valery Peterburgsky and was an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts. After graduating from VGIK, Plotnikov devoted himself to professional photography, focusing mainly on portrait photography.
Among his most famous works are photo shoots with Vladimir Vysotsky, Lilya Brik and Sergey Paradzhanov and many other famous personalities.
