- Oleg Ivashchenko, the head of foreign intelligence, will become the head of the GUR of Ukraine instead of Budanov.
Oleg Ivashchenko, head of the country's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), will become the new head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine instead of Kirill Budanov (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation). This was announced on January 2 by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian leader announced this after a meeting with Ivashchenko.
"Starting today, Oleg Ivashchenko will continue to serve our state and perform tasks <...> in the position of military intelligence of Ukraine," Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
On the same day, the Ukrainian leader invited Budanov to head the office of the president of the country. In addition, he instructed the new head of his office to update and submit for approval the strategic framework for the defense and development of Ukraine and further steps.
Budanov later announced that he had accepted the offer. He replaced Andrei Ermak, whom Zelensky dismissed on November 28.
