Romania on Friday took off two F-16 fighter jets near the border with Ukraine after declaring an air alert. This was announced on January 2 by the Ministry of National Defense of the country.

"At approximately 11.50 (12.50 Moscow time), two F-16 fighters from the 86th airbase in Fetesti took off to monitor the border area with Ukraine in the northern part of Tulcani County," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

It is specified that residents of the border district of Tulcha received an air alert. The alarm mode was canceled after about half an hour. The Ministry of Defense clarified that no violations of Romanian airspace were recorded, and no aircraft debris was found on the territory of the country.

On the night of December 26, Romania took off two F-16 fighter jets near the border with Ukraine due to an air alert announced after the approach of a group of drones. The Ministry of Defense clarified that no unauthorized incursions into the country's airspace had been recorded, and no debris from aerial objects had been found on Romanian territory.
