Honored boxing coach of Russia Yuri Sudakov has died at the age of 77. This was announced on January 2 by the Russian Boxing Federation.
"On December 31, Honored boxing coach of Russia Yuri Sudakov passed away. <...> The passing of Yuri Sudakov is a great loss for the entire boxing family," the federation's Telegram channel says.
Sudakov was a five-time champion of Moscow, and in 1976 he won the bronze medal of the USSR heavyweight Championship, defeating Igor Vysotsky. He started coaching at the age of 28, working at the trade union committee of the Avangard plant. A few years later, Sudakov became a senior coach at Zenit Moscow, and later led the training of athletes from the united trade unions of Moscow.
Among his students are seven—time European professional champion Alexander Makhmutov and world champion Anastasia Toktaulova. The Russian Boxing Federation stressed that the memory of Yuri Sudakov will forever remain in the history of Russian sports.
