As a result of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the village of Khorly in the Kherson region, a Serbian citizen received minor shrapnel wounds. This was announced on January 2 by the governor of the region, Vladimir Saldo.

"There was one Serb among the cafe's patrons. <...> He went to the Skadovo hospital, fortunately, he suffered minor shrapnel wounds, and he has a Serbian passport," he said.

The governor added that most of the cafe's customers were locals. According to Baldo, the identity of the newcomers is currently being established.

On the same day, the regional Ministry of Health reported that one of the victims of the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on the Kherson region died in a hospital in Crimea. In addition, five children and nine adults are in medical institutions of the republic after the incident.

The day before, Saldo said that 24 people were killed in Khorlakh as a result of a strike by three drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a cafe and a hotel. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act").

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin heard a report by Baldo on the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike and on the progress of investigative actions. Later, he agreed that the crime was similar to the burning of people in Odessa on May 2, 2014.
