The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have to retreat in the south of the Zaporizhia region under the onslaught of the Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). This was reported on January 2 by CNN.

"Ukrainian troops are under increasing pressure in the south of the country, where less equipped units [of the Ukrainian army] are significantly outnumbered by Russian brigades," the publication says.

As the TV channel noted, the Russian military was able to advance in several areas at once. It is noted that the fighting took place in the village of Gulyai-Pole, and the situation in the region remains "tense."

On December 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Army had reached its maximum rate of advance in December 2025. In addition, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov added that the Russian Armed Forces are moving even faster than planned.

Prior to that, on December 17, 2025, the head of state stated that the Russian military in the special military operation zone (SVO) was moving forward in all directions. According to him, the servicemen have demonstrated success in eliminating groups and reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
