- A boy who raised the remains of a festive salute lost his fingers in Blagoveshchensk
A boy from Blagoveshchensk, Amur region, picked up the unexploded remnants of a fireworks display from the ground, which detonated in his hands, as a result of which he lost several fingers. This was announced on January 2 by the mayor of the city Oleg Imameev.
"The day before, grief had already happened in one family. The child found and picked up unexploded "bombs" left after the fireworks. They detonated in his hands. The boy underwent an urgent operation, but he lost several fingers," he said in a message posted on his Telegram channel.
The mayor called on parents to have conversations with their children about the dangers of pyrotechnics, and also asked Russians not to purchase this product from random merchants who often violate the storage conditions of their product, and sometimes do not have certificates for it.
Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, in an interview with Izvestia on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, said that such essential attributes of the New Year as fireworks, firecrackers and sparklers conceal risks. She noted that if used incorrectly, pyrotechnics can cause injury, property damage, and even fires.
