The court arrested the deputy governor of the Zaporizhia region Zinchenko
The deputy governor of the Zaporizhia region, Alexander Zinchenko, accused of fraud, was detained by the Moscow court. This is evidenced by official court documents, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti on January 2.
"To choose a preventive measure against Alexander Anatolyevich Zinchenko in the form of detention for a period of 1 month and 29 days," the materials say.
According to the documents, Zinchenko was detained on December 19, and the next day he was charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale"). The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years.
The investigation, motivating the petition for the election of a preventive measure, indicated that Zinchenko, holding a high-ranking position as deputy governor, could use official connections and personal acquaintances to obstruct an objective and comprehensive investigation of the criminal case. The investigating authorities also believe that he is capable of exerting pressure on witnesses and other participants in the process, persuading them to recant or change their testimony.
