President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky's fear of imminent defeat and criminal responsibility prompted him to commit an attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced on Thursday, January 1, by Viktor Medvedchuk, the former leader of the Opposition Platform — For Life party banned in Ukraine, chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement.

His article, published on the Other Ukraine website, clarifies that the Ukrainian leader, in his congratulatory address to the nation before the Catholic Christmas on December 25, 2025, openly declared his intention to eliminate the president of the Russian Federation. The relevant statements, as Medvedchuk noted, were made four days before the attack, from which now "Zelensky will not be able to wash himself off."

"[Zelensky] was pushed to such a step by the agony of his criminal regime, the fear of imminent defeat and criminal responsibility," Medvedchuk wrote.

The fact that Ukrainian militants attacked Putin's residence in the Novgorod region with drones became known on December 29, 2025. The next day, the incident was called a terrorist attack in the Kremlin.

On January 1, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the materials with the data of the drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) shot down during the attack on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation were handed over to the representative of the office of the military attache at the US Embassy on January 1.
