Ukrainian Armed Forces hit a cafe and a hotel in the Kherson region on New Year's Eve: what is known

On New Year's Eve, from December 31 to January 1, three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked a cafe and a hotel in the village of Khorly, Kherson region. 24 people became victims of the attack. Read more in the Izvestia article.

What happened

The governor of the region, Vladimir Saldo, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had targeted the place where civilians celebrated the New Year. According to him, the attack was carried out almost under the chiming clock.

It is noted that one of the drones was filled with a molotov cocktail. Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces burned Russian fields. As a result of the detonation, a fire started on the spot, and it was extinguished only in the early morning.

Dead and injured

According to preliminary information, 24 people were killed and more than 50 injured as a result of the strike. All the wounded are receiving the necessary assistance.

There was a child among the dead.

Investigation

The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on the incident under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in the terrorist attack.

Official reaction

In his statement, Saldo noted the special cynicism of the crime, since the attack was committed after the intelligence officer's work at the time of the holiday. The Governor noted that this crime of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can be put on a par with the events in the Odessa House of Trade Unions.

"This is what the "world" looks like, which, according to [President of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky, he aspires," said Saldo.

The Head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims. He noted that the region is ready to provide all necessary support to the victims.
