Starting from January 1, Russians will be able to check into a hotel with a driver's license.

Since January 1, Russian citizens have had the opportunity to register at hotels with a driver's license. This follows from the updated rules for the provision of hotel services in the Russian Federation, published on the official resource of the legal reference system "Garant".

"In the absence of documents certifying the identity of a citizen of the Russian Federation, <...> check—in at the consumer's hotel is carried out upon presentation of the consumer's driver's license," the resolution says.

According to information on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the new rules for the tourism industry were developed as part of the Business Climate Transformation initiative. These changes correspond to the order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, given in June 2024. It is expected that the new rules will not create additional difficulties for hotels and will contribute to the growth of domestic tourism.
