An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was recorded on Wednesday evening, December 31, 2025, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. This was announced on the night of January 1 in the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
The seismic event, as stated in their message posted on the Telegram channel, occurred at a depth of 3.8 km. It was detected 214 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which is home to over 162 thousand people.
There was no information about casualties or damage as a result of the incident.
On December 15, the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kamchatka. The epicenter of the tremors was located 224 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. They occurred at a depth of 54 km.
