On the eve of the New Year, large-scale festivities began on Red Square. Residents and guests of Moscow shared their impressions of the holiday on December 31 with Izvestia.

"We have a family tradition. Every year for 5-6 years we have been riding on New Year's Eve, in the last session. It's kind of a New Year's atmosphere. Next is the New Year's table, the speech of the President of the Russian Federation, everything is as it should be," said Alexandra, a visitor to the skating rink.

Many visitors specially came to Moscow from different regions of the country to take part in the celebration. The guests were attracted by the vibrant atmosphere and emotions that the capital evokes.

"Today I decided to fulfill my childhood dream. I got up on skates, came to Red Square alone, just to get high, get this charge of emotions, energy, and remember what childhood was like," Renat said.

The Kamchatka Territory and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug became the first regions of Russia where the year 2026 has arrived. Time in both regions is 9 hours ahead of Moscow time: at 15:00 on December 31, Moscow time in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Anadyr, it is already 00:00 on January 1. Residents of Kamchatka and Chukotka were also the first to see Russian President Vladimir Putin's New Year's address.
