State Duma deputies from the New People faction sent an initiative to Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov to introduce three additional paid vacation days for Russians who worked a shift on the night of December 31 to January 1. This was reported by TASS on December 31.

"We consider it advisable to consider the possibility of consolidating at the federal level the mandatory provision of three additional paid days of leave to employees who are actually employed in the night shift from December 31 to January 1," the agency cites the text of the proposal.

The authors of the initiative recalled that on New Year's Eve, employees of medicine, emergency services, transport, housing and communal services and trade go to work, despite the holiday. At the same time, current regulations only provide for increased pay or time off, but not separate guarantees for those who work on New Year's Eve.

The parliamentarians believe that the establishment of three additional days of leave at the federal level will be a more equitable compensation, will help to increase employee motivation and reduce the burden on staff in key areas. The initiative is also seen as a measure of public recognition for those who ensure the safety and smooth operation of infrastructure during the holidays.

The New Year holidays will not affect the fixed part of the salary of Russian citizens, however, for employees who receive piecework payments, changes in the total amount of earnings are possible. In addition, it was noted that with piecework pay, employees working on holidays can expect an increase in their January earnings.
