The number of reported measles cases in the United States in 2025 exceeded 2,000 for the first time in more than 30 years. This was reported on December 31 by the Axios portal, citing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"This year, a sharp increase in the number of cases and protracted outbreaks may lead to the United States losing its internationally recognized status as a country that has eliminated measles for the first time in decades by the end of January 2026," the article says.

According to the portal, as of December 23, 2025, 2012 cases of measles were registered throughout the country. About 93% of those infected either have not been vaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown. According to Axios, Texas had the highest number of cases in 2025 (803), followed by Arizona (187) and North Carolina (156). In 2024, there were only 285 confirmed cases of measles in the United States.

In November, the US State Department instructed to refuse visas to people with a number of chronic diseases. The reasons for refusal may be cardiovascular, respiratory, oncological, metabolic disorders, and neurological and mental disorders.
