Washington may have problems maintaining a strike group stationed off the coast of Venezuela, as this process requires funding and also undermines the morale of military personnel. This was announced on Tuesday, December 30, by the correspondent of The New York Times (NYT), Tyler Page.

"The deployment of not only the Ford strike group near Venezuela, but also the expeditionary strike group formed around the Iwo Jima amphibious assault ship, represents an incredibly powerful complex of conventional naval forces for a mission that began as an unconventional counter—narcotics operation," his article says.

It also notes that in the event of an extended deployment, the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford sent to the Caribbean Sea may not receive maintenance on time, and the crew on board will be depressed due to a business trip that lasted longer than expected.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on December 23 that the United States had deployed aircraft, troops and equipment to the Caribbean. This step, as noted, will allow this state to expand its capabilities to conduct potential military operations in the region. On the same day, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the Russian Federation strongly condemns the US seizure of tankers off the coast of Venezuela and the imposed naval blockade. He said that the White House is directly claiming Venezuela's mineral resources and is actively exerting pressure to change power in the republic.

American leader Donald Trump announced on December 22 that Washington intends to keep the oil from intercepted Venezuelan tankers. This resource, as he stressed, will be used for sale or in a strategic reserve.
