In Italy, a mother and daughter died in hospital after Christmas dinner
A mother and her 15-year-old daughter died, presumably from food poisoning after Christmas dinner, without waiting for medical help. This was reported on December 30 by the Italian news agency ANSA, citing data from local law enforcement agencies.
It is clarified that family members went to the emergency department of Campobasso several times, but they were sent for home treatment. According to preliminary data, they were diagnosed with food poisoning, which was probably caused by eating seafood.
"Five doctors are under investigation in the case of the deaths of 15-year-old Sara Di Vita and her 50-year-old mother Antonella Di Ielsi," the publication says.
The newspaper Le Monde reported on December 18 that France sentenced to life imprisonment 53-year-old anesthesiologist Frederic Peschier, who poisoned 30 patients aged four to 89 years, 12 of whom died. The court confirmed that Peshier deliberately caused cardiac arrest in his patients.
In May 2019, the French prosecutor's office charged Peschier with 17 new cases of poisoning patients. They also died during surgical operations performed under general anesthesia. The criminal case against Peschier, described by the state prosecutor as "unprecedented in the history of French law," was initiated in January 2017 after the death of a 36-year-old patient in a clinic in Besancon, eastern France.
