The expert warned about the dangers of the popular New Year's makeup
Ekaterina Volnova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Acting Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Bioorganic Synthesis at ROSBIOTECH University, warned that makeup with glitter, metallic and shimmer can be dangerous to health.
In a conversation with Lenta. On Tuesday, December 30, a specialist noted that during the accent makeup season, there is a growing interest in glitters and shadows with metallic or pearlescent effects, but such products require caution. According to her, glitters consist of polymer particles with a metallized coating, which can injure the skin and mucous membrane of the eyes, and also belong to microplastics.
Metallic shadows, she added, are applied in several layers, which forms a thick film on the eyelids that can cause irritation. The shimmer is considered less aggressive, but it can also provoke individual reactions.
Volnova recommended choosing cosmetics with a safety label for the area around the eyes, giving preference to biodegradable glitters, using a primer and cream or gel textures, and be sure to carefully remove makeup at the end of the day.
In October, Yulia Gallyamova, a dermatologist, said that exercising with makeup does not pose a serious danger to the skin if you use good-quality cosmetics. Meanwhile, she noted that during exercise, the pores expand, and sweat increases the penetration of cosmetics into the skin, so with prolonged exertion, the risk of irritation or allergic reactions increases.
