- The State Traffic Inspectorate strengthens the fight against drunk drivers during the holidays
During the New Year holidays, additional traffic police crews will work on the roads, undergo mass inspections and other preventive measures. This was reported to Izvestia on January 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"Countering drunk driving remains one of the main tasks of the State Traffic Inspectorate, especially during the holidays. During the New Year holidays, additional traffic police crews will work on the roads, undergo mass inspections and other preventive measures," the department noted.
The State Traffic Inspectorate said that following the results of 11 months of last year, there was a decrease in the number of accidents involving drivers in a state of intoxication by 8%. The number of deaths in such car accidents decreased by 15.2%, and the number of injured by 7.1%. Nevertheless, the problem of drunkenness at the wheel continues to be relevant, especially during the long holidays.
"Despite the positive dynamics, some drivers still ignore the prohibitions and get behind the wheel drunk. The State Traffic Inspectorate emphasizes that violators who get behind the wheel in a drunken state will not escape responsibility, regardless of the circumstances," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The State Traffic Inspectorate counts on the support of the population in the prevention and suppression of drunk driving. Civil society activists continue to conduct voluntary raids, reporting suspicious drivers to the police. The department recalled that anyone can also contact the State Traffic Inspectorate through social networks, the official website of the department, helplines and messengers if they notice inadequate drivers on the roads. Traffic police inspectors are ready to respond immediately to incoming signals, the department stressed.
Earlier, on December 30, 2025, it became known that the President of Kazakhstan signed a law that introduces new requirements and restrictions for the use of electric scooters.
