The doctor pointed out the danger of champagne with ashes
Ekaterina Sysoeva, a general practitioner at Krasnogorsk Hospital, warned that the New Year's ritual with a note and champagne could harm health.
According to the expert, the burnt paper contains substances that cannot be called harmless. An additional danger is created by its combination with alcohol: sparkling wine increases the irritating effect of harmful particles on the gastric mucosa, which can lead to nausea, pain and a feeling of heaviness. The risk is especially high for people with gastritis and hypersensitivity of the stomach, Radio 1 reported on Tuesday, December 30, with reference to the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region.
Sysoeva explained that microparticles of soot, resins and chemical components of paper remain in the ashes — remnants of ink, bleaches and adhesives. When heated, some of them break down into toxic fragments that are not intended to enter the body.
At the same time, the specialist noted that the consequences largely depend on the individual reaction. According to her, a single such ritual often does not lead to serious harm, but it cannot be called safe — for some, everything goes unnoticed, for others, the holiday may turn into discomfort.
To preserve the tradition without risking health, the doctor advised not to mix the symbols: burn the note separately, and drink champagne without additives. This will allow you to leave the moment magical and avoid unpleasant consequences.
A survey by the dating service Mamba on December 28 showed that on the eve of the New Year, Russians are increasingly clearly articulating a request for personal happiness: instead of easy flirting, most are aiming for a serious relationship. As the chimes strike, 54% dream of meeting the love of their lives, 20% want to stop having endless correspondence without meetings.
