Illusionist Shurole called Emile Kio a bridge between the epochs.
The illusionist Emil Kio, People's Artist of the RSFSR, was a "bridge between epochs" that connected the golden age of the Soviet circus with modernity. His colleague Roman Shurole told about it on December 30.
"Emil Emilievich was a bridge between epochs, a living legend who connected the golden age of the Soviet circus with modernity," Shurole shared in an interview with RBC.
He added that Kio's name became synonymous with the very concept of "circus magician", the illusionist was the guardian of the "legendary dynasty". Shurole recalled that the magician's father, Emil Theodorovich Renard-Kio, was a famous Soviet circus performer.
Shurole noted that the magic of Kio is immortal, the artist had a unique way of communicating with the public and boundless dedication to art.
Kio's death became known earlier that day. Edgard Zapashny, General Director of the Bolshoi Moscow Circus, expressed his support for Kio's family and called him a great artist.
The farewell to the People's Artist of Russia will take place in the ceremonial hall of the Troekurovsky cemetery on January 2.
