- Merz demanded honesty and transparency from the participants in the negotiations on Ukraine
All participants in the negotiation process to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, including Russia, must be honest and their intentions transparent. This was announced on December 30 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"Transparency and honesty are now required of everyone, including Russia," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Merz also said that he had held additional consultations with European and Canadian partners today within the framework of the Berlin format.
On the same day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that peace in Ukraine could be achieved in the coming weeks. He also stressed the need to coordinate actions at the international level during the negotiations.
On December 30, The American Conservative magazine stated that the demands of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky regarding a peaceful settlement of the conflict could lead to a breakdown in negotiations with the United States. According to the newspaper, American security guarantees to Kiev will create geopolitical problems for the administration of US President Donald Trump.
