- Russians with a place of birth in Crimea or the LPR are deployed on the border with Georgia
The Russian Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia reported that Russian citizens were more often denied entry because of the place of birth indicated in the passport. This was announced on December 30 by the Russian Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia.
"We state that recently there have been more frequent cases of denial of entry to Georgia to citizens of the Russian Federation, in whose passports the place of birth is indicated, in particular, the Ukrainian SSR, the Abkhazian ASSR, South Ossetia, Crimea, Donetsk People's Republic, Lugansk People's Republic, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions," TASS reports.
The diplomatic Mission strongly recommended that Russians carefully weigh possible risks when planning trips to Georgia. At the same time, Artur Muradian, Vice President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), expressed doubt that the reason for the refusals was only in the place of birth. He noted that there are no official statements from the Georgian authorities, and the border guards can act according to internal rules.
"I do not have information about the ban on the entry of Russians to Georgia. The border guards of a foreign state can always refuse, without explaining or motivating their decision in any way," Muradyan said. News.ru .
On December 4, it was reported that starting from January 1, 2026, Russian tourists, especially independent travelers, will need medical insurance to enter Georgia. According to the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, tourists will have to have medical and accident insurance in Georgian or English.
