Iran has recognized the Royal Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has designated the Royal Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization. This was reported on December 30 by The Times of Israel (TOI) newspaper.
"This step is a reaction to the fact that Ottawa has declared [the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC], the ideological wing of the Iranian armed forces, a terrorist group, "contrary to the fundamental principles of international law," the newspaper quoted a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
TOI also writes that Iran did not specify the consequences that would follow the recognition of the Canadian fleet as a terrorist formation.
In June 2024, it was reported that the Canadian authorities had added the IRGC of Iran to the list of terrorist organizations in accordance with the country's Criminal Code. It was noted that the IRGC allegedly demonstrated disregard for human rights both inside and outside Iran.
Prior to that, in April of the same year, the Canadian leadership imposed sanctions on two Iranian generals, including former Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, and the country's general staff. It was noted that the replenishment of Canada's sanctions list occurs after Iran's attack on Israel.
