The demand for car rentals and winter housing has increased in the tourist regions of Russia

The demand for rental cars and winter accommodation in the tourist regions of Russia continues to grow. According to Avito Auto and Avito Travel, in December 2025, interest in car rentals increased by 18% compared to last year. This was reported to Izvestia on January 11.

The highest demand is recorded in Moscow and the Moscow Region, as well as in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and the Kaliningrad Region. Murmansk Region, Karelia, Kamchatka Territory, North Ossetia and Dagestan remain traditionally popular winter destinations.

In winter, travelers' preferences shift towards cars suitable for difficult roads and trips by large companies. The Renault Duster has again become the leader of requests for Avito Auto, and roomy models like the Hyundai Grand Starex are in demand. This choice is more often made by tourists of ski destinations — cars are suitable for transporting equipment and transfers from the airport to resorts.

Housing preferences have also changed. According to Avito Travel, studio apartments (42% of bookings) and studios (29%) are most often booked in winter. The country segment is dominated by houses (79%) and cottages (16%). The average cost of daily rent is 4.8 thousand rubles for an apartment and 12.9 thousand rubles for a country house. Tourists usually stay for three days: in apartments for three people, in houses for companies of up to five people. In the period from December 2025 to February 2026, demand for apartments increased by 24%, and for country houses — by 61% year-on-year.

Experts attribute the growing interest in rural recreation to the desire to spend time in nature and get additional services: a sauna, a vat, a swimming pool or space for a large company to relax.

On October 19, it became known, according to a study by Avito Auto, which was reviewed by Izvestia, that from May to September 2025, Lada cars were the most popular cars for rent in Russia. Hyundai (13.6%), Kia (9.1%), Toyota (9%) and Volkswagen (5.9%) followed this brand in the ranking. Among the models, the most popular were Hyundai Solaris (8.9% of interest), Lada Granta (7.8%), Kia Rio (5.9%), Volkswagen Polo (4.8%) and Toyota Camry (2.9%).
