Russia expects that the United States will continue to adhere to the understandings that were reached by the parties during the negotiations in Anchorage. This was announced on December 30 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with Rossiya Segodnya news agency.
"We hope that the American side will be able to continue to adhere to the mutual understanding reached in Anchorage," he is quoted as saying on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to the minister, Russia's principled line on this issue remains unchanged. He also stressed that the country has repeatedly expressed its unwavering commitment to political and diplomatic ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, Washington is currently continuing to cooperate with Moscow in this area.
Lavrov said that American leader Donald Trump is making "sincere and serious" efforts every day to find solutions to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov also noted that the Russian and American sides understand the importance of regularly comparing positions on pressing international issues, including the Ukrainian conflict.
On the eve of the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, Alexei Chepa, expressed the opinion that on the issue of agreements on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, Trump currently adheres to the key line formed in Anchorage, which inspires serious hopes and opens up prospects.
