Parking rates have been adjusted on a number of streets in Moscow
Parking rates have changed in some metropolitan streets since January 2. This was previously reported in the Telegram channel "Deptrans of Moscow".
Parking has become cheaper at 12 sites, including Mikhail Yakushin and Igor Chislenko Streets, 2nd, 3rd and 5th passageways of Maryina Grove. The report explains that the average occupancy of parking spaces here was less than 50%, so the tariff was reduced to balance demand. In some zones, it is now 40 rubles.
In the vast majority of areas with paid parking (89% of streets), the tariffs remained the same. And in areas with a workload exceeding 80-90%, they have been adjusted.
"The tariff adjustment will free up the busiest parking lots, which will reduce the excess traffic created by cars whose drivers are looking for empty spaces. Local residents with a residence permit will receive even greater priority and will be able to find parking faster, as the turnover of parking spaces will be higher — parking lots will be released faster," the Telegram channel explained.
According to the head of the expert center "Traffic Jams. No" by Alexander Shumsky, adjusting the cost of parking helps to maintain optimal occupancy. "When the price doesn't match the demand, parking lots overflow. The adjustment maintains a level where there are always several empty seats — this is an indicator of a well—functioning system," he said.
The expert also added that the changes are beneficial to local residents: "the mere existence of parking permits that allow residents to park for free in their area does not guarantee that parking spaces will be available if the tariff has ceased to be effective."
The Deptrans of Moscow Telegram channel also previously reported that the fare along the Moscow Ring Road during critically busy hours in January was indexed by three rubles — up to 13 rubles per section. The rest of the time on weekdays (from 20:00 to 07:00 and from 11:00 to 16:00), as well as on weekends and holidays, travel is free. The transit fare (950 rubles) remained the same.
