Scammers began sending out false messages in messengers about alleged New Year's payments for Russians, promising large sums. This was reported on December 30 in the Telegram channel of the press service of the Department for the Organization of combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"New Year's payments from [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will begin on January 1. Putin. The size depends on the age and the city. All citizens born after 1950 can receive the payment," the agency cites the mailing list message.
The attackers promise to receive from 35 to 325 thousand rubles.
The ministry also recalled that information on social benefits can be found on the official Gosuslugi portal.
On December 29, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that Happy New Year cards received from unknown numbers should not be opened, as this could trigger malicious code. According to the agency, on the eve of the holiday, advertisements often come about the opportunity to buy a discounted gift, into which attackers can embed a virus.
