During the January holidays, frequent and contrasting temperature changes are likely in almost all regions. Yandex Weather analysts told Izvestia about this on December 30.
Around -11 degrees Celsius, light snow and light wind are expected in Moscow on New Year's Eve. During the holidays, the temperature will range from -1...-2 degrees to +4 degrees, followed by a return of frost to -8...-10 degrees, precipitation of varying intensity is possible almost daily.
In St. Petersburg, it is forecast to be around -10 degrees and snow on New Year's Eve; during the holidays, the temperature will remain in the range of -1...-6 degrees.
"In Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan and Samara, on the night of January 1, -9...-11 degrees are expected, the wind is light, snow in places; in the future, snowfalls and rains are possible, and the temperature will vary from -10 degrees to +6 degrees," the forecasters said.
In addition, in the Volga region and the central regions, the first half of the holidays will be frosty to -10 degrees, warming to +3...+6 degrees is predicted in the Christmas area, and at the end of the holidays, a second cooling to -8...-10 degrees is possible.
In the Urals — in Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Perm and Ufa — on the night of December 31 to January 1, -8...-11 degrees, light snow and light wind are forecast; then forecasters expect sharp changes from severe frosts to thaws. In Novosibirsk, New Year's Eve will be held at -1 degrees and heavy precipitation, in Omsk — up to -12 degrees and light snow, in Krasnoyarsk — -3...-5 degrees without precipitation; in the following days, temperature fluctuations from -13 to +2 degrees are predicted.
In the south, including Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and Volgograd, New Year's Eve is expected to reach -6 degrees without significant precipitation, and then a noticeable warming to +2...+14 degrees.
Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, said on December 24 that cloudy weather with short-term snowfalls is expected in the capital on December 31 and January 1. Daytime temperatures will range from -7 to -10 degrees, while nighttime temperatures will drop to -10...-15 degrees. He specified that the expected temperature values will be about three degrees below the long-term average for this period.
