Syrian leader al-Sharaa unveiled new banknotes
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has unveiled new banknotes designed to replace the old ones with images of ex-leader Bashar al-Assad and members of his family. This was reported by the Sana news agency on December 29.
"President al-Sharaa and the head of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Khusrieh, presented new banknotes. <...> President Al-Sharaa stated that the denomination marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new stage for Syria, stressing that removing zeros from the old currency simplifies transactions, but does not improve the economy in itself," it says. in the publication.
The new banknotes, which instead of Bashar al-Assad and his father depict olives, roses, wheat and oranges, will go into circulation on January 1, RBC said.
The Jfranews portal, citing the country's parliament, reported on October 5 that Iran had decided to denominate the national currency, the rial, and the issue had been discussed since the 1990s. It was clarified that the bill was approved by the Iranian parliament.
