Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is seeking to disrupt negotiations on a settlement of the conflict and is once again choosing a terrorist path, and attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin indicate Kiev's panic and despair. This was announced on December 29 by retired Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen in a conversation with Izvestia.

"Look at Kiev and those who advise them, and their other actions. They get desperate, they panic. They are not succeeding. <...> It is not new for them to resort to terrorist methods," he said.

According to Rasmussen, the Ukrainian side hopes to take away Russia's chances of victory by "removing" Putin. This decision is advised to Kiev by allies from the "coalition of the willing."

"Obviously, there is such a thing inside, but I think that some of their "coalition of willing" intelligence services probably recommend it too. And I'm sure some of them could have provided intelligence for this attack. So this is very alarming and disturbing. I'm not surprised, because they're panicking," said the ex-lieutenant colonel.

In addition, he noted that lying about the attack is a sign of a "not so successful" meeting between American leader Donald Trump and Zelensky. Rasmussen added that the desire to provoke Russia and disrupt the negotiations was caused by the dissatisfaction of the President of Ukraine with the outcome of the negotiations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 29 that Russia, against the background of the Ukrainian drone attack on the residence of the Russian president, does not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States on Ukraine. However, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the negotiating position of the Russian Federation due to the terrorist attack in Kiev will be reviewed, as the attack occurred against the background of an intensive negotiation process.

On the same day, Lavrov said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had carried out a drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. According to the diplomat, 91 UAVs were destroyed by the air defense forces. There was no information about the victims or the damage received.
