The attempted strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin was a political and symbolic act aimed at expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of the administration of the head of the White House, Donald Trump. This was announced on December 30 by American political scientist and journalist Garland Nixon.

"I think it was a political act. It wasn't about the Russians. It was about the Europeans. It was about the Americans. And it was about the negotiation process and influencing it, or at least making it clear to the negotiators: "We don't agree with this. We don't care what you say," he told Izvestia.

According to the political scientist, this action has no strategic or tactical significance, but it is a signal for Trump and European countries aimed at disrupting the negotiation process and demonstrating dissatisfaction with the actions of the American president.

Nixon noted that traditionally, when serious negotiations were held, there were such incidents using drones aimed at provocation and creating problems. However, this time, instead of acting before the negotiations, as it usually did, the strike attempt was carried out after the negotiations ended. Nixon stressed that such actions would not be able to influence the situation at the front, but would only provoke Russia's anger.

He noted that this act was probably aimed at expressing to the Europeans and the United States disagreement with the course of the President of the United States to improve relations with Russia. According to the journalist, such actions by Kiev will not be able to influence Trump's opinion.

Nixon concluded that the meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his American counterpart most likely did not bring the expected results for Kiev, and his supporters realized that attempts to influence Trump's position would not be successful.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 29 that Russia, against the background of the Ukrainian drone attack on the residence of the Russian president, does not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States on Ukraine. However, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the negotiating position of the Russian Federation due to the terrorist attack in Kiev will be reviewed, as the attack occurred against the background of an intensive negotiation process.

On the same day, Lavrov said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had carried out a drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. According to the diplomat, 91 UAVs were destroyed by the air defense forces. There was no information about the victims or the damage received.
