Current browsers use the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure user security, in particular by detecting phishing sites and analyzing incoming calls in order to prevent fraudulent activities. This was announced on December 30 by Alexander Lunev, head of the Yandex Information security training group.

"Modern browsers <...> use built-in AI algorithms to check websites for phishing. The system evaluates dozens of parameters in a split second: domain reputation, page structure, suspicious forms of payment data entry. If the site looks dangerous, the user receives a warning," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The specialist revealed the technique of using artificial intelligence to process incoming calls. According to his explanations, the algorithms analyze the caller ID and his behavioral patterns, including the frequency of calls, the time of making calls and the presence of negative reviews from other users. This allows the system to identify potentially fraudulent calls in advance, providing the user with information to make an informed decision. Lunev stressed that ignoring warnings from the browser or phone markers is unacceptable, as they serve as a significant indicator of risk.

It is specified that the end of the year period is a time of increased activity for scammers. They actively use New Year's Eve scenarios, such as creating fake online stores with tempting discounts, sending phishing emails on behalf of delivery services, or making calls demanding an SMS code. As Lunev notes, their strategy is to provoke strong emotions, whether it's excitement from lucrative offers or panic, prompting rash actions.

The expert advises regularly updating the browser and applications, as the latest versions include advanced AI protection algorithms capable of detecting new fraudulent schemes. Nevertheless, Lunev urges to remain vigilant and critical even when using modern technologies. When faced with offers of unrealistic discounts or disturbing messages, it's worth asking yourself: "Why am I being told this in this particular way and at this particular moment?"

On December 23, the Yandex press service reported that the Yandex Browser AI had detected a surge in a New Year's Eve scheme to deceive customers on the Internet, and since early December, the company's algorithms have identified a wave of phishing sites through which fraudsters offer to buy "snow-covered" or "special" Christmas trees with delivery. It was noted that such sites are often indistinguishable from the real ones.

Konstantin Larin, head of the Bastion cyber intelligence department, said on December 18 that there was an increase in fraud related to fake delivery services in Russia. He noted that the attack has now become more complicated.: First, the "support operator" calls, collects the data, and then uses it to obtain bank card details. All actions are aimed at ensuring that the interlocutor voluntarily dictates the necessary information.
