On December 30, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Old Testament prophet Daniel, who lived in the sixth century before the Birth of Christ. He came from a noble Jewish family. In his youth, he and his people were taken captive to Babylon after the capture of Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar. There, thanks to his intelligence and piety, he was chosen to serve at the royal court and was taught Chaldean wisdom.
